THE Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) aims to reduce transport and logistics costs, among other measures, to help realize President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.s' vision to transform the Philippines into a leading logistics hub in Asia.At the Supply Chain Management Association of the Philippines (SCMAP) Conference 2024, Trade Undersecretary Mary Jean Pacheco outlined a comprehensive strategy to streamline logistics processes. This includes the continued implementation of the Executive Order on pass-through fees, the passage of a bill to lower international shipping charges, and the push for adoption of the e-airway bill. She also announced the development of a private sector-led National Logistics Strategy and a National Logistics Investments Plan. "Both are aimed to attract more investments in logistics infrastructure, thereby improving the efficiency and competitiveness of the country's supply chain," Pacheco said in a statement on Monday. There are plans for a tripartite partnership with SCMAP and the Philippine Retailers Association to develop a comprehensive job blueprint for the wholesale and retail trade sector to contribute to the country's employment and economic growth, she added. Her statement likewise mentioned the DTI will collaborate with the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority to create the Logistics Industry Technical and Vocational Education and Training Board. Other objectives include supporting the Clark International Airport Corp.'s plan to establish the Clark National Food Hub, an initiative to improve the country's food distribution system. "These comprehensive measures are designed to optimize our supply chain, reduce costs, and enhance the competitiveness of Philippine products globally," Pacheco said. The trade official acknowledged the SCMAP's role in navigating the complexities of the logistics and supply chain. The DTI is stepping up efforts to advance direct connections between farmers and institutional buyers in its Three-Year Food Logistics Action Agenda.
