TUGUEGARAO CITY — A municipal councilor of Iguig town in Cagayan province was arrested on Saturday for illegal drugs, according to the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) in Region 2 (Cagayan Valley). Reports said the arrest of Councilor Emerito Gasmen was also with the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Cagayan Valley Regional Office, the Cagayan Provincial Police Office and the Tuguegarao police office. The PDEA said the arrest was based on a warrant issued by Judge Severino de Castro of Metro Manila Regional Trial Court Branch 82 in Quezon City. No bail was recommended by de Castro in the case filed against the suspect, who allegedly violated Sections 5 and 11 of Article 2 of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act. The suspect is in the custody of PDEA Region 2 and will be turned over to the court in Quezon City. Gasmen was reportedly being eyed to run for mayor in Iguig town in the 2025 midterm national and local elections.
