Brownlee credits pals for solid game

By Manila Times - 5 days ago
JUSTIN Brownlee said his 40-point effort in Barangay Ginebra's lopsided 124-102 win against Rain or Shine was a byproduct of the team's rhythm and offense flow. Sure, the 36-year-old Brownlee had an anemic 18-point output in Ginebra's low-scoring 74-65 defeat to Rain or Shine during their first-round meeting in Candon City, Ilocos Sur, last August. But the resident Ginebra import stressed that his explosive offense in their payback victory on Friday night came through with the help of his teammates. "My teammates did a great job finding me in open areas so I can knock down shots." Brownlee also recognized that he's got a number of teammates who are capable of coming out with a good scoring night. A case in point was Friday's game, where five other local players scored in double figures. Japeth Aguilar had 21 points to go along with eight rebounds. Stephen Holt had 18, Scottie Thompson chipped in 17, while rookie RJ Abarrientos and Maverick Ahanmisi chipped in 14 and 13, respectively, in a balanced scoring attack. "I feel like we got a lot of guys who can shoot the ball," noted the three-time PBA Best Import, who many Pinoy fans consider as the "GOAT" (greatest of all time) reinforcement in league history. "It's been showing these past few games with our win streak. Our guys struggled earlier, but coach (Tim Cone) always tells us to find the balance, whether me making shots or guys just going out there being aggressive," he added.
