Philippines hosts World Travel Awards gala, wins awards
THE Philippines, through its Department of Tourism (DoT) and the Tourism Promotions Board (TPB), hosted the World Travel Awards (WTA) Asia & Oceania Gala Ceremony 2024 at the City of Dreams Manila on September 3. This milestone reinforced the country's global tourism prominence. Tourism Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco highlighted the nation's growth under President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., focusing on infrastructure, connectivity and the tourism experience. She praised Filipinos' warmth and resilience as key to the country's appeal. During the event, the Philippines secured prestigious awards, including Asia's Leading Island Destination, Boracay as Asia's Leading Luxury Island Destination and Cebu as Asia's Leading Wedding Destination. The "Love the Philippines" campaign won Asia's Leading Marketing Campaign 2024. The country retained titles as Asia's Leading Beach Destination for the seventh year and Asia's Leading Dive Destination for the sixth consecutive year. Intramuros was named Asia's Leading Tourist Attraction for the fourth time. Frasco received the Transformational Leader Award in Tourism Governance for promoting sustainable tourism and enhancing the Philippines' global reputation. TPB Chief Operating Officer Margarita Montemayor Nograles emphasized that these accolades validate the country's authenticity and hard work in promoting diverse attractions. The event, attended by global tourism executives and experts, showcased the Philippines' natural beauty, cultural heritage and luxury destinations. The WTA Gala was supported by City of Dreams Manila and various partners, cementing the Philippines' status as a top global destination.
