Mojdeh to see action in 2024 World Cup
(UPDATE) PHILIPPINE national junior record holder Micaela Jasmine Mojdeh made it to the national team seeing action in the prestigious 2024 World Aquatics (WA) Swimming World Cup to be held in three different countries. The Philippine Aquatics Inc. will be sending a total of 16 swimmers, including Mojdeh, who had an impressive showing in the qualifying event recently held at the Rizal Memorial swimming pool. Mojdeh, a member of the Behrouz Elite Swimming Team (BEST), secured a spot in the team by virtue of her 690 WA points she earned in winning the gold medal in the women's 200-meter butterfly event. The three-leg World Cup is Mojdeh's first international stint in the seniors division after an outstanding campaign in juniors. The 18-year-old Filipino Iranian became the second Filipino swimmer to reach the semifinals of the World Juniors Swimming Championships held in Lima, Peru, in 2022. Besides winning gold medals in various international meets, she also broke national junior record several times including the girls' 16-18 200-m butterfly (2:15.86) in the 2023 World Juniors Championship in Netanya, Israel. "She always has good news happening [to] her on my birthday. In 2022, she made it to the semis World Juniors then broke PH junior record in 2023. Now she finally made it to [the] Philippine National Team. "Step by step toward your goal. One step at a time," said BEST team manager Joan Mojdeh, mother of Micaela Jasmine. "As she now steps into her first competition as a national team on her 18th year and bid her last year in the junior national team. We are having mixed emotions but more excited for her," she added. The Mojdehs also expressed gratitude to all coaches — from the late Philippine Swimming League president Susan Papa to her current mentor Sherwyn Santiago. "I am grateful [for] your journey, because we know you have experienced everything that you needed, to prepare you for a bigger stage. Good luck to your new journey Jas. We are always proud of you," Joan ended. The first leg will be held on October 18 to 20 in Shanghai, China, before flying to Seoul, South Korea, for the second leg on October 24 to 26. The final leg is slated on October 21 to November 2 in SIngapore. Joining Mojdeh in the team are Albert Jose Amaro II, Joshua Ang, Miguel Barretto, Rafael Barretto, Lucio Cuyong II, Robin Domingo, Jerard Jacinto, Nathan Jao, Metin Mahmutoglu, Tayund Paloma, Rian Tirol, Xiandi Chua, Miranda Renner, Chloe Isleta and Kyle Valdez.
