DASMARIÑAS CITY, Cavite — The second of three suspects in the killing of a woman surrendered to Mayor Jenny Barzaga and police chief LtCol. Julius Balano on Thursday at the city hall. Barzaga said the suspect, known only as Rommel, surrendered at around 9:30 a.m. through the help of the suspect's family. The 36-year-old victim, identified as Chatty Timbang, was gunned down at the emergency room of the Pagamutang Bayan ng Dasmarinas on August 29. She went to the hospital to get treatment for the wounds she allegedly sustained from the earlier attack by the same three suspects. In an interview with the suspect during the media presentation, alias Rommel denied allegations that he shot the victim. He said the reason for his surrender was to clear his name after learning that Barzaga offered a cash reward for the apprehension of the suspects. Rommel said he also feared his safety after his photo was spread on social media with a corresponding reward for his arrest. Based on police records, the victim, who was a police asset, was also attacked prior to the August 29 incident, but survived. In the ensuing hot pursuit operation, authorities arrested the first suspect identified only as Jeric, 22. Alias Jeric admitted being part of the first murder try on the victim, the police said. The victim, who survived the first murder attempt, went to the hospital for a checkup on August 29, and it was at that juncture that the third suspect, identified as Urak, shot her to death, the police said. The victim's mother who was watching over her at the emergency room, a security guard of the hospital, and another helper sustained bullet wounds during the hospital attack. All of them are now in stable condition. Alias Rommel denied having any hand in the August 29 killing, saying he was not in Cavite at the time the victim was shot inside the emergency room. He said he was in Bataan to deliver soft drinks. Barzaga offered a reward to anyone who can provide information on the whereabouts of the suspects. The P100,000 reward offer was posted on the mayor's social media page on Tuesday.
