Businessman bares plan to run for governor in Oriental Mindoro
CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro — After so much speculation on his political plans, a real estate developer and businessman here announced on Tuesday his intention to run for the highest executive position of the province. Orven Rabino, a self-made businessman and real estate developer from a fishing village in the city, released a statement on Tuesday, saying that he will run for governor in the May 2025 elections. "I am offering myself, from someone who comes from the poorest section of our society, as your public servant to the 14 municipalities and one city of Oriental Mindoro," Rabino said in his statement. He said that his comprehensive program will focus on the rights of the people for services that should be afforded to them without begging when it is needed. He also said that he will fight for the people's right to sufficient and reliable power, right to a safe environment and protection of natural resources, right to good governance and fight against corruption, right to proper health care, right to development for all and not to a chosen few. Last year, posters bearing his image and greetings to the people of the province were posted in public places, fueling speculations that he would run for public office in the coming elections. He was also designated as the Hermana Mayor of the Calapan City Fiesta celebration in January this year. It was reported that he provided performers to every fiesta celebration in different barangay and even provided lechon (roasted pig) for the celebrations. People thought that he would run for vice mayor, board member or vice governor but on Tuesday, he officially announced his bid to run for governor. Rabino's legal counsel Atty. Hospicio Laygo told The Manila Times that they are open and willing to form a broad coalition with different political or sectoral groups for the development of the province and the resolution of the current issues affecting the people of Oriental Mindoro. The filing period for the certificate of candidacy is from October 1 to 8.
