NAVAL, Biliran — The vast agricultural land in Sitio Lomboy, Barangay Calumpang in the town of Naval will now have a layer of protection from flooding and the overflowing of the river with the completion of the flood control structure by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) – Biliran District Engineering Office in the area.
Officer in charge District Engineer Irwin Antonio said that the completed project, which has a budget of P80 million, has a length of 1,205.40 meters.
"These flood control structures help us mitigate flooding, especially taking into consideration that the province of Biliran has so many rivers," Antonio said.
Antonio also said that the project is a continuation of the existing flood control structure at Sitio Lomboy.
"We are really prioritizing the construction of flood control structures along flood critical sections of the province's waterways. Even though we cannot stop the flood, at least, we can mitigate it," he added.
Antonio said that the said project was completed on July 15, 2024, ahead of the target schedule set by the district office on Nov. 13, 2024.
The project was implemented under the district's 2024 funding year.
Biliran Rep. Gerardo Espina Jr. worked out for the funding of the said project.
