Japan's State Minister for Foreign Affairs meets Filipino Nikkei-jin

Japan's State Minister for Foreign Affairs Yoshifumi Tsuge on August 21 met with the Filipino Nikkei-jin during his visit to Manila.

The Filipino Nikkei-jin or the war-displaced Japanese Descendants in the Philippines discussed with Tsuge their current situation and the efforts being made by the Japanese government.

President of Manila Central Luzon Nippi Association Inc. Stephen Querico Buñi and Secretary General of Philippine Nikkei-jin Legal Support Center (PNLSC) Norihiro Inomata explained the current situation and activities aimed at identifying Filipino Nikkei-jin and restoring their Japanese nationality. Second-generation Filipino Nikkei-jin Jose Takei also shared his own experiences and hardships over the years.

Meanwhile, on August 14, Ambassador Kazuya Endo welcomed Camarines Sur 1st District Congressman Tsuyoshi Anthony Horibata, President of the Philippine Nikkei Jin Kai Rengokai (Federation of Japanese descendants) Ines Yamanouchi Mallari and the other officials of Philippine Nikkei-jin Kai to his residence.

During the visit, the Ambassador exchanged views on latest situation and issues concerning Filipino Nikkei-jin.

This meeting aligns with the Embassy of Japan's commitment to provide maximum support to as many remaining Filipino Nikkei-jin as possible, enabling them to swiftly restore Japanese nationality and temporary return to Japan smoothly.
