MANILA, Philippines — Signal No. 1 was raised in some areas in Luzon and Visayas following the intensification of the low pressure area (LPA) into a tropical depression named Enteng, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said on Sunday.
Weather forecaster Grace Castaneda said Signal Number 1 was up over the eastern portion of Camarines Sur (Presentacion, Garchitorena, Caramoan, Calabanga, Naga City, Pili, Bombon, Magarao, Ocampo, Baao, Nabua, Bula, Balatan, Bato, Milaor, Minalabac, Camaligan, Saglay, Iriga City, Buhi, Tigaon, San Jose, Goa, Siruma, Tinambac, Lagonoy, Canaman, Gainza and San Fernando), Catanduanes, Albay, Sorsogon, Burias Island and Ticao Island in Luzon.
Northern Samar, Samar, Eastern Samar, Biliran, and the northeastern portion of Leyte (Babatngon, San Miguel, Tacloban City, Alangalang, Santa Fe, Palo and Barugo) were also placed under the same storm signal.
Moving north-northwestward at 30 kilometers per hour (kph), "Enteng" has maximum sustained winds of 45 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 55 kph.
Its center was estimated at 12 kms north-northeast of Borongan City, Eastern Samar or 150 kms east of Catarman, Northern Samar, Pagasa said.
The tropical depression may hit land in the next 48 hours.
By Tuesday, it would likely intensify into a severe tropical storm, Pagasa said.
