MARAGONDON, Cavite — A barangay captain who was in the middle of a road supervising a cleanup project was killed by a riding-in-tandem in Barangay Tulay A here on Saturday, the Maragondon police reported.
Maragondon police chief Maj. Cris Mangupay identified the victim as Rodrigo Tanagras, 53, chairman of Barangay Tulay A in this town.
A witness told the Maragondon police investigators that the victim was helping barangay health workers cutting grass along the barangay road when two unidentified men on board a Honda Click, suddenly appeared.
The witness said that one of the suspects, with no apparent reason, pulled his firearm of unknown caliber and shot the victim several times before the duo fled toward an unknown direction.
The victim was immediately rushed to San Lorenzo Ruiz Hospital in nearby Naic town but was pronounced dead on arrival at around 8 a.m. on Saturday by Glenerson Ontiveros, the attending physician.
Tanagras was a retired provincial police officer who was assigned to the Intel Department.
"The authority is still investigating the motive [for] the killing," said Mangupay.
