An enchanting evening of magical music

By Manila Times - 3 months ago

Elegance, grandeur and gentility defined the Johann Strauss Society of the Philippines (JSSP) Gala Concert at the Rizal Ballroom of the Makati Shangri-la Hotel. The magnificent and fashionable setup with centerpieces of vibrant red roses on round tables draped with black and white lace was a sight to behold.

The musical program was curated celebrating the beauty of love and life expressed in soulful masterpieces of renowned Austrian, German and Italian composers. I enjoyed a lovely sweet summer lunch at the Turkish Residence, hosted by Indri Akyol, the wife of the Turkish Ambassador. The gathering included my "Beautiful Soul Sisters" — Irene Wicklein, Fortune Ledesma, and Mav Rufino — along with Susan Fries, Riita Laakso, Nicole Weismann, and Bambi Javelosa.

The lunch featured a wonderful selection of Turkish dishes, all expertly prepared by their Turkish chef. Each dish highlighted the rich and diverse flavors of Turkish cuisine, with its mix of spices and fresh ingredients that truly represent this vibrant food culture. No Turkish meal would be complete without the renowned baklava and Turkish delight, which added a perfect sweet finish. Everything was absolutely delicious!

The occasion was made even more special with a cake to celebrate Fortune's birthday, adding a joyful touch to the sweet summer lunch. Tesekkür ederim to our gracious host for such a memorable experience.
