MANILA, Philippines — Alex Eala of the Philippines on Wednesday (Manila time) tallied her first win of the US Open qualifiers in a three-set victory to start her campaign.

She defeated Australia's Maddison Inglis in the first qualifying match 6-3, 2-6, 6-1.

Eala easily handled Inglis in the first round before trailing in the second and easily dominating the Australian in the third.

Nuria Parrizas-Diaz of Spain is set to be Eala's next opponent in the second round of the US Open qualifiers. ARIC JOHN SY CUA
