By Manila Times - 3 months ago

MANILA, Philippines — The ruling Partido Federal ng Pilipinas (PFP) denied that the administration alliance finalized its list of senatorial candidates who will be endorsed by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. in the 2025 midterm elections.

PFP President Reynaldo Tamayo Jr. issued the statement after Sen. Imee Marcos disclosed the line-up of of the administration's senatorial candidates. They came from the ranks of the PFP, the Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats (Lakas-CMD), the Nacionalista Party (NP), and the Nationalist People's Coalition (NPC).

In a statement, Tamayo said that Marcos merely asked the different political parties supportive of the administration to come up with their preferred senatorial candidates until September 15.

"Whatever list is going around isn't true. We will announce the senatorial line-up of the administration when this is decided by all members of the Alyansa Para sa Bagong Pilipinas," Tamayo said.

The leaders of the coalition on Monday met at the Aguado Residence in Malacañang to finalize the administration coalition's 2025 senatorial slate.

Sen. Marcos, who will be seeking re-election, shared the names of the administration's prospective candidates.

Former Senate president Vicente "Tito" Sotto 3rd leads the four-person bloc from the NPC. He is joined by former senator Panfilo Lacson, reelectionist Sen. Manuel "Lito" Lapid and Makati City Mayor Abigail Binay.

The three from the NP bloc are reelectionist Senators Imee Marcos and Pia Cayetano, and Las Piñas Rep. Camille Villar, who will be swapping posts with her mother, Sen. Cynthia Villar who is reportedly eyeing the mayor's post in their home city.

Three candidates from Marcos' PFP have also been named: reelectionist Sen. Francis Tolentino, returning senator Emmanuel Pacquiao and Interior Secretary Benhur Abalos.

There will also be two from the ruling Lakas-CMD party, the country's most dominant party, re-electionist Senator Ramon "Bong" Revilla Jr. and ACT-CIS partylist Rep. Erwin Tulfo.

The NPC, NP and Lakas-CMD have all signed a coalition agreement with Marcos' PFP.

The filing of candidacy for the 2025 elections is scheduled in the first week of October this year.
