MANILA, Philippines — After missing out on the homecoming activities with Filipino athletes, Philippine Olympic gymnast Levi Jung-Ruivivar announced on her Instagram platform that she is returning to the Philippines to meet with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
On Thursday, Ruivivar confirmed that Marcos and his office reached out to her and was seen in an airport headed for Manila.
"Heading to Manila to meet the President!" she wrote. "What an honor. Thank you to the President and his office for making this dream come true. Can't wait to see everyone."
She would later post a reel celebrating that she is heading back to the country.
Ruivivar's teammates, Emma Malabuyo and Aleah Finnegan, are still in the Philippines and were also seen training young Filipina gymnasts, among them Elaiza Yulo, younger sister of their teammate and double Olympic gold medalist Carlos Yulo. Finnegan also served as a muse at the opening ceremonies of the PBA Governor's Cup.
The trio was not part of the heroes' welcome last week that saw Yulo and other members of the Philippine team in Malacanang and the parade along the streets of Manila, with all of them saying that they were neither invited nor aware that there was such an event.
