MANILA, Philippines — Filipino businessman and former Ilocos Sur 1st district Rep. Luis "Chavit" Singson announced that he would be giving P5 million for double Olympic gold medalist Carlos Yulo and his family.
In a video interview posted on his Facebook page on Thursday, Singson said more than the two gold medals Yulo won at the Paris 2024 Games, the money will be for his family, amid a much-publicized feud.
The description on Singson's Facebook post read that it would "foster unity" within Yulo's family. "If they are together, I will give them P5 million," Singson said in Filipino.
The former politician, who claims to have a "strong commitment" to Filipino family values, said the reward was not only for his achievements at the recently-concluded Olympic games, but also for the unity of his family and his partner, as well.
"I aim to convey a powerful message that an individual's success is never theirs alone; it is shared by those who stand by them, offering love, guidance and unwavering support," read the kicker on Singson's post.
Meanwhile, Toyota Motor Philippines also said that as a result of his two Olympic gold medals, he will also be rewarded with a Toyota Land Cruiser Prado. "We hope this vehicle helps bring you to greater heights. We are excited to see where your journeys can further take you," Toyota said.
"As part of Toyota's global Start Your Impossible movement, we are also looking forward to work with you on your chosen advocacy which is food security, especially for children in need," the car company added.
These rewards add up to the already P60 million worth of cash, prizes and incentives Yulo received after his wins in Paris.
