Solar project awarded green lane certification

By Manila Times - 3 months ago

THE Board of Investments (BoI) awarded a green lane certification to Terra Solar Philippines Inc.'s (TSPI) project with commercial operations of its first phase slated to begin in 2026.

With an initial investment amounting P185 billion, the BoI said the Pangilinan-led TSPI's new venture was set to become the world's largest solar project visible from space.

The project will be divided in two phases, with the first phase set to generate 600 megawatts (MW), while phase two will increase output to 850 MW. It is also a pioneering Solar PV + Battery Energy Storage Systems project that was awarded an 850-MW supply agreement from Manila Electric Co.

TSPI aims to generate 3,500 MW of solar power with a 4,500-megawatt-hour battery energy storage system spanning 3,500 hectares in Nueva Ecija and Bulacan.

BoI managing head Ceferino Rodolfo said on Tuesday that the project had also been approved for registration.

"The basic objective of the Philippines now under this administration is not just to grow — we are already the fastest-growing economy in the region — but more importantly to transform the Philippine economy into a smart and sustainable hub for manufacturing and services," he said.

The target for the first phase of commercial operations is February 2026 while the next phase is scheduled to commence by February 2027.
