Ginebra, Taipei Kings face off in Macau exhibition game

By Manila Times - 4 months ago

MANILA, Philippines -- BARANGAY Ginebra will face off with P.League+ defending champion New Taipei Kings in an exhibition game on Wednesday at the Tap Seac Multi-Sport Pavilion.

Coach Tim Cone and the rest of the team left for Macau on Tuesday.

Game time is scheduled at 8:30 p.m., where overseas Filipino workers from the special administrative territory of China are expected to cheer for the PBA's most popular ballclub.

The exhibition match will also feature the debut of offseason acquisitions Stephen Holt and Isaac Go, along with the third overall pick in the 2024 PBA Annual Rookie draft RJ Abarrientos.

Holt and Go landed at the Gin Kings after being involved in a blockbuster trade that saw Ginebra deal veterans Christian Standhardinger and Stanley Pringle to the Terrafirma Dyip just before draft day.

Ginebra though won't have injured wingman Jamie Malonzo, Jeremiah Gray and PBA Season 46 Most Valuable Player Scottie Thompson.

Abarrientos and Holt will add a combination of youth and dynamism as well as solid playmaking and shooting for a Ginebra backcourt that for years have relied on LA Tenorio and Pringle.

The 24-year-old Abarrientos is fresh off a stint with Strong Group, which he helped win the William Jones Cup in Taiwan recently.

The Gin Kings will be facing a Taiwan pro ballclub that just last June, bagged the squad's first-ever P.League+ crown after outlasting the Taoyuan Paouian Pilots in their finals series.

Former NBA champion Jeremy Lin and his brother Joseph are among the stars for New Taipei, along with 2024 P.League+ MVP Lee Kai-Yan and Kenny Manigault. RICHARD DY
