MANILA, Philippines — Barangay Ginebra has signed this year's third overall rookie pick RJ Abarrientos to a three-year deal.
Player agent Edgar Mangahas posted the newest update on the speedy guard out of Far Eastern University in his Instagram account on Monday.
The 24-year-old Abarrientos signed the rookie deal in the presence of Ginebra team governor and San Miguel Corp. sports director Alfrancis Chua.
Abarrientos is coming off a recent stint with Strong Group, which just last week, beat Chinese Taipei-A to complete a sweep and rule the William Jones Cup.
The young playmaker is expected to bring in youth, dynamism and speed to a Ginebra backcourt that still has veterans LA Tenorio, Maverick Ahanmisi and Nards Pinto, as well as newly-acquired Stephen Holt.
Ginebra managed to grab the no. 3 in the recent Annual Rookie Draft after swapping first-round picks with Terrafirma.
The swap was part of the blockbuster trade that saw Ginebra ship veterans Christian Standhardinger and Stanley Pringle in exchange for Holt and Isaac Go.
