Maxine Esteban makes quick exit in Paris

By Manila Times - 4 months ago

MANILA, Philippines -- Former Philippine national fencing team member Maxine Esteban made a quick exit at the Paris Olympics after losing her opening match to world no. 15 and home bet Pauline Ranvier, 7-15, in the women's individual foil round of 32 at the Grand Palais on Sunday (Manila time).

Now representing Ivory Coast, the 23-year-old Esteban simply could not keep up to the 30-year-old Ranvier as she fell to a 2-13 deficit.

The 13th seed Ranvier eventually finished off the 20th seed Esteban in the second period.
