Dongallo to return from injury soon

By Manila Times - 2 months ago

UNIVERSITY of the East volleyball star Casiey Dongallo is set to return to full training soon.

Dongallo, who missed playing for Alas Pilipinas in the AVC Challenge Cup for Women last May due to a right arm injury, said her cast has just been removed.

Dongallo also said she is already making progress in training.

"I just had my cast removed before going here in Cebu and then I will have a check up and rehab when I got back to Manila," said Dongallo, who accompanied her high school alma mater California Academy which competed at the just concluded Palarong Pambansa in Cebu.

"I'm starting to make passes but when it comes to full-blown training there's no clearance from the doctor yet. We have an upcoming league which is the V. League at the end of July. I think I couldn't compete there because I'm still rehabbing but I think it would not take months to recover, it's just weeks."

A Palarong Pambansa standout, Dongallo underscored the importance of the games.

"Palaro is really important because athletes could get scouted by the schools they wish to study at and play for. This is the best of the best from Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao," the 19-year-old spiker added.

"I'm proud of the athletes who competed here and they should be proud of themselves too because they made it here through their hard work."

Dongallo's Palaro stint ultimately resulted in a call up from the national women's volleyball team.

"Of course, that's one of the athletes' dreams to be part of the national team. And as a lot of people have been asking, if I were given a chance to be part of the national team again, would I take it? and I said why not, because that's everyone's dream."
