By Manila Times - 2 months ago

SAN Miguel Beer is looking at pairing seven-time PBA Most Valuable Player June Mar Fajardo with a Lithuanian big man heading into the Governors' Cup of Season 49.

The Beermen's team manager Gee Abanilla confirmed to The Manila Times that the PBA's all-time winningest ballclub is currently working on the necessary requirements to bring in Lithuanian forward Tauras Jogela.

"Yes, we're working on it pending the passing of all his (Jogela) PBA and GAB (Games and Amusement Board) requirements," Abanilla told The Times on Friday.

Listed at 6-foot-8, Jogela will have to pass the PBA's height measurement for imports, before his entry becomes official.

The 31-year-old Jogela was a member of the Lithuanian junior squad that pocketed the silver during the FIBA Europe under-16 championship where he went on to earn the Most Valuable Player award.

The native of Taurage, Lithuania has since played for his country's pro league through 2015, before taking his act to Hungary, Austria, Romania and Latvia where he joined the Latvian League All-Star in 2017.

Jogela's most recent pro basketball foray was with Jonava in Lithuania where in 30 games, he averaged 10.6 points, 4.2 rebounds and 2.0 assists.

The Beermen are coming off a runner-up finish in the Season 48 Philippine Cup after losing to the Meralco Bolts in the Finals.

Meanwhile, San Miguel and Meralco are set to represent the country and the PBA in the 2024-25 East Asia Super League when the second edition of the home-and-away tournament starts this October.

The Beermen are bunched together with Japan B.League champions Hiroshima Dragonflies, along with P.League+ runners-up Taoyuan Pauian Pilots and Korean Basketball League second placer Suwon KT Sonicboom in Group A.

The Bolts, on the other hand, are in Group B with P.League+ champions New Taipei Kings, KBL champions Busan KCC Egis and B.League runners-up Ryukyu Golden Kings.
