(UPDATE) CEBU CITY — Micaela Jasmine Mojdeh completed a sweep of five individual events she participated at the 64th Palarong Pambansa capped by a girls secondary 400-meter (m) individual medley conquest at the Cebu City Sports Center on Sunday.

Representing Calabarzon, Mojdeh registered a time of 5:12.18 as she emerged as the clear winner after the third split of the event.

The 18-year-old started her golden sweep by ruling the 200-m butterfly event on July 11 when she broke her own 2019 Palaro record of 2:22.69, submitting a time of 2:19.72 this time around.

She then registered a new high in the 200-m breaststroke with a time of 2:41.75 on July 12, beating the previous record of 2:43.78 submitted by now national seniors team member Xiandi Chua of NCR.

On the same day, Mojdeh collected her third gold medal by topping the girls secondary 200-m individual medley as she submitted a time of 2:26.68.

The following day (July 13), Mojdeh topped the 100-m butterfly event with a time of 1:03.82.

"I was really expecting to win five golds in individual events but I was really aiming for the records," said Mojdeh, who was rather unsatisfied with her time in the 400-m individual medley event.

"I'm happy with my time in the first few days although I submitted a bad time in this event but it's not super bad. It's just that it's not within my expectations," said Mojdeh, who has a total of six medals, with the other one being a bronze in the 4x100-m medley relay.

As of press time, Mojdeh of the Brent International School was still competing in the 4x100-m relay.

Swimming has been the staple of Region 4A with Albert Jose Amaro of San Beda Taytay being a force in the boys secondary division, winning six golds as of 3 p.m.

He is also perfect in individual events, having topped the 100-m butterfly, 100-m freestyle, 50-m butterfly, 200-m freestyle, and 50-m freestyle events.

Amaro posted records in 50-m butterfly (25.25 seconds), 100-m butterfly (56.50), and 200-m freestyle (1:58.15) events.

Meanwhile, Iza Yulo likewise emerged as one of the most bemedaled athletes after winning five golds in the secondary girls artistic gymnastics.

After winning the individual and team all-around events, Yulo of the National Capital Region (NCR) ruled the uneven bars, balance beam, and floor exercise events while also bagging a silver medal at the vault where she notched 11.650 points on Sunday at the Cebu Institute of Technology — University.

The younger sister of world champion and Olympian Carlos scored 9.850 points in uneven bars, 12.050 in balance beam, and 10.900 in floor exercise which is tied with fellow NCR gymnast Cielo Esliza.

Yulo's five-gold haul is one of the fuel in the overall defending champ NCR's gold surge at Palaro which rose to 45 on top of 35 silvers and 44 bronze as of 3:40 p.m.

Western Visayas has overtaken Calabarzon at the second spot with a 34-24-27 haul while the latter has 33-29-33.

Central Visayas came fourth with a 22-31-18 gold-silver-bronze haul while Davao Region fifth with a 20-16-19 tally.
