MAGNOLIA is leaving no stone unturned in putting an end to its long and fruitless campaign in the PBA.
For the kickoff conference of Season 49, the Hotshots are bringing in NBA veteran and former Slam Dunk king Glenn Robinson III as its import in the Governors' Cup.
Magnolia team governor Rene Pardo confirmed to The Manila Times that the 30-year-old Robinson, who won the 2017 NBA Slam Dunk title, is arriving this Sunday in Manila.
"Yes, our import is Glenn Robinson III, the NBA Slam Dunk champion and he is arriving this Sunday," Pardo said in Filipino.
Listed at 6-foot-6, the son of NBA superstar Glenn Robinson was selected 40th overall by the Minnesota Timberwolves during the 2014 NBA Draft.
He went on to play for the Timberwolves, Philadelphia 76ers, Indiana Pacers, Detroit Pistons, Golden State Warriors and Sacramento Kings until the 2020-21 season.
He played a total of 304 games in the NBA and averaged 5.9 points, 2.6 rebounds per game while owning a career 37.3 percent shooting clip from three-point distance.
His last pro basketball stop was with the NBA G League squad Wisconsin Herd where he averaged 11.3 points, 5.5 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game during the 2023-24 season.
The Hotshots fell short of ending a six-year title drought in the Season 48 Commissioner's Cup after bowing to the San Miguel Beermen in the finals.
In the Philippine Cup, Magnolia failed to get past the quarterfinal phase after bowing to longtime rival Barangay Ginebra, 99-77.
The last time the franchise won a PBA championship was during the 2018 Governors' Cup.
