PH Eagle 'Mangayon' dies

By Manila Times - 2 months ago

THE Philippine Eagle Foundation announced on Thursday the death of male Philippine Eagle Mangayon, which was rescued in Compostela, Davao de Oro, on July 8.

Mangayon was nursing an injury from a marble-gun projectile when he was found by rescuers. The eagle eventually died due to severe blood loss.

"The necropsy results revealed that Mangayon was a healthy male eagle with all internal organs in good condition. The primary cause of death was severe blood loss from the wounds in the left wing, with a high probability of sepsis stemming from the injuries," the Philippine Eagle Foundation said.

"We appeal to the authorities to enforce the standing policies and laws aimed at stopping the persecution of violent eagle crimes and to strongly urge our government to exercise legal and operational mandates," it added.
