SEN. Bong Go was a beacon of hope for the workers facing economic challenges as he visited Olongapo City, Zambales on Thursday.
The senator provided additional assistance and support to struggling workers, reaffirming his commitment to improving the lives of Filipinos.
"Never lose hope, for we are here to support and serve you. Let us continue to unite and help one another, as our goal is to improve the lives of every Filipino. My addiction is public service, and I am with you in every step of our recovery," Go said.
At the relief activity held at the Marikit Park covered court, Go and his Malasakit Team left no stone unturned in their efforts to support the community. They distributed various essentials, from masks and food packs to vitamins and snacks, ensuring that the 500 beneficiaries were well cared for. This initiative provided immediate relief and a sense of hope and unity in the community.
As a testament to their commitment to individual needs, select beneficiaries were given special items like a watch, bicycle, mobile phone, and shoes. This personal touch in the distribution process, where the items were chosen based on the specific needs and preferences of the beneficiaries, further demonstrated the care and consideration shown by Senator Go and his team.
Alongside the direct assistance from Go's team, the beneficiaries were also oriented about the Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (Tupad) program, which the senator supports consistently. This direct assistance provided immediate relief to the beneficiaries, making them feel supported and cared for.
"We are here for the Tupad program that we advocated for earlier, which aims to provide you with temporary employment. This is to help us adjust, at least temporarily. Let us applaud the Department of Labor and Employment employees for their efforts in implementing the Tupad program. Let's applaud them once again. Thank you all," said Senator Go in Filipino.
Dubbed "Mr. Malasakit" for his consistent, compassionate service to people experiencing poverty, Go also filed Senate Bill (SB) 420, which aims to institutionalize a Rural Employment Assistance Program (REAP). If enacted, the primary objective of REAP is to provide temporary employment avenues for individuals facing economic hardship, poverty, displacement, or reliance on seasonal employment. This commitment to improving the lives of Filipinos reassures the audience of Senator Go's dedication and leadership.
To further ease the financial burden on Filipino families, Go also co-authored and co-sponsored SB 2534, which aims to raise the daily minimum wage by P100 nationwide.
