(UPDATE) JUNE Mar Fajardo looks headed to reset the PBA's record books once again as he ended Season 48 with a big lead in the statistical race for the Most Valuable Player (MVP).
The pride of Pinamungajan, Cebu, holds the No.1 spot in the stats race with 42.1 points, making him a cinch at winning a league record eighth PBA MVP award.
The San Miguel Beermen star center closed the season with solid per-game averages of 17.8 points, a league-best 13.4 rebounds, 2.8 assists, and 1.7 blocks.
His power-playing ways enabled him to lead the Beermen to the Philippine Cup championship, followed by a runner-up finish after bowing to the Meralco Bolts in the Commissioner's Cup Finals last June.
A distant second behind Fajardo for the league's top individual award is Barangay Ginebra's hard-banging center Christian Standhardinger, who had 37.8 stats points (SPs) followed by the 6-10 SMB star center's teammate CJ Perez (37.4 SPs), who won the Commissioner's Cup Best Player of the Conference award.
NorthPort's sharpshooting wingman Arvin Tolentino and TNT's top gunner Calvin Oftana are at fourth and fifth spots with 35.9 and 35.4 SPs.
Meanwhile, Terrafirma's do-it-all guard Stephen Holt appears to be the hands-down choice for the Rookie of the Year after leading the race with 34.1 SPs.
The Filipino American guard out of Saint Mary's served as Terrafirma's 1-2 punch along with Juami Tiongson after helping the Dyip reach the playoffs for the first time in eight years during the Philippine Cup.
Holt averaged 17.0 points, 6.9 rebounds, 5.5 assists, along with 1.9 steals. Currently, he is also at sixth spot in the MVP standings.
NorthPort forward Cade Flores is a distant second in the rookie race with 23.3 SPs, after averaging 9.3 points and 7.2 rebound.
