Filipino jins bag 4 gold medals in South Korea

(UPDATE) FILIPINO jins harvested medals at the Daegu 2024 World University Taekwondo Festival which ran from July 5 to 7 in South Korea.

Israel Cantos, Tachiana Mangin, and Dave Cea topped their respective competitions to lead the way for the Philippines.

Cantos ruled the men's -87kg class Kyorugi, Mangin the women's -47kg, and Cea the men's -74kg division.

Patrick King Perez and Jocel Ninobla likewise emerged as champion in the U30 Mixed Pair – Recognized Poomsae.

Back in Kyorugi, Kent John Banzon and Justin Mark Agno both claimed silver medals in the men's -54kg and -80kg classes, respectively.

Jubilee Briones, Melbourne Lustado, and Clarence Sarza delivered a bronze medal each to complete the medal haul for the Philippine team.

Briones finished third in the women's -62kg, Lustado in the men's -58kg, and Sarza in the women's -46kg.

"Congratulations Philippine team! 1st mission done," Philippine taekwondo coach Rani Ortega wrote on a Facebook post on Tuesday.

"Thank you for pouring your hearts out there! The will and determination is unbelievable! Though the journey is long ahead.. pero sama sama natin itong tatahakin at tatagumpayan! Para sa bayan!!! (but we will face it together and be victorious, for the nation!)."

Ortega also expressed gratitude to the Philippine Taekwondo Association, Philippine Sports Commission, Philippine Olympic Committee and everyone who made the national team victory possible including the coaches.
