THE Manila Times School of Journalism will soon conduct its inaugural Workshop in Journalism for Social Media Content Creators, a two-day workshop designed to elevate the skills of social media content creators in the Philippines.
The workshop, set for July 26-27, will be conducted by multi-awarded multimedia journalist Jacque Manabat, who is known for her innovative approach to storytelling and dedication to reaching a broader audience.
Manabat was the first Southeast Asian journalist to use TikTok as a news platform, revolutionizing storytelling through an infotainment approach, and the first Filipino journalist verified on TikTok. She has been included in Nieman's Lab Mapping Journalists on Social Media and was one of 120 creators worldwide recognized at the Global Creators' Festival in South Korea.
Manabat's significant social media following has allowed her to connect with digital natives seeking accurate information across various platforms. Her work has garnered local and international recognition, and she has been invited to speak at journalism seminars across Asia and Europe. In 2024, she was among the 22 journalists globally chosen for the prestigious International Visitors Leadership Program for New and Traditional Media under the US State Department.
She is recently featured on Women of TikTok in-app billboard, Google PH's Women on YouTube Breaking Barriers Online, Inquirer.Net's Mentors in the Digital Classroom, and DICT's Women in Innovation. With more than 17 years in media, Manabat's dedication to journalism, media literacy, and community service exemplifies her commitment to excellence and the power of journalism to effect change.
As social media continues to play a pivotal role in how information is disseminated and consumed, The Manila Times is committed to promoting and advancing the standards of journalism within this space. This workshop aims to pave the way for the development of responsible social media content by providing participants with a comprehensive understanding of the craft.
Participants will benefit from Manabat's expertise and insights during the two-day session, which will consist of about eight hours of teaching each day. The curriculum is designed to equip attendees with the tools necessary to produce engaging, credible and impactful social media content.
"In today's digital age, social media have become a powerful platform for communication. It is essential that content creators uphold the standards of journalism to ensure the integrity and credibility of the information being shared. This workshop is a step towards achieving that goal by providing the necessary training and guidance," said Dante Ang II, chairman and CEO of The Manila Times.
The masterclass fee is set at P5,000 for early registrants and P6,000 for regular registration.
