(UPDATE) THE Philippine muay thai team bagged ten medals from the 2024 IFMA World Senior Muaythai Championships in Athens, Greece, with four gold medals, five silver and one bronze.
LJ Rafael Yasay won two gold medals from the tournament in the combat and Mai Muay categories.
In the men's 48-kilogram combat finals even for those under 23 years old, Yasay defeated Danila Rakitskii to secure his gold medal.
He also won gold in the U23 Mai Muay event after defeating Manh Hoang Dinh by points in the final.
Yasay also received a silver medal in the men's U23 wai kru after bowing to Malaysia's Asyaf Latif by points in the final.
Ariel Lampacan clinched his gold medal in the men's wai kru event after he won against Greece's Dimos Asimakopoulos in the final by points.
He also received a silver medal in the Mai Muay final, bowing to Thailand's Pithaya Thippranee.
Alyssa Kylie Mallari won her gold medal in the women's U23 Mai Muay final by defeating Myra Arina Roslan by points. She also got a silver medal in the U23 women's wai kru, after losing to Malaysia's Yan Jia Chi.
Islay Erika Bomogao took home three medals (two silver and a bronze) in the women's wai kru and Mai Muay events and a bronze in the combat elite 45 kg category.
The national team, also known as "Team Bagsik," finished in 3rd place overall in the standings of the tournament, behind Thailand and a neutral team consisting of athletes from Russia.
