By Manila Times - 3 months ago

MANILA, Philippines — Alas Pilipinas bounced back from a loss after surviving Australia in four sets, 25-16, 25-23, 21-25, 25-19, in the 22nd Princess Cup U18 Women's Southeast Asian Volleyball Championship at Nakhon Pathom in Thailand on Tuesday.

The Philippines are alive for their semifinal bid as they tallied 3-1 win-loss card, while Australia fell to 1-3.

Up by seven points in the first frame, 23-16, Alas Pilipinas banked on Australia's attack error before Avril Bron scored off a gift to seal the set, 25-16.

In the second frame, Australia was two points away to tie the match, 23-21.

But Philippines responded with a 3-nothing run, as Denesse Daylisan guarded the net, Bron converted back-to-back service aces, and Daylisan powered a through-the-block hit to gain a 2-0 set advantage.

Australia displayed grit after taking the third frame, banking on Alas Pilipinas' errors.

The Philippines took care of its five-point cushion and its match point advantage, 24-19, as Australia made a costly attack error to hand Alas Pilipinas its victory.

Alas Pilipinas look to end its prelimination round with a win as they will battle the tough Indonesia squad on Wednesday, June 12, at 12:30 p.m.
