San Pablo City Mayor inducts 'Team' officers

Mayor Vicente Amante of San Pablo City, Laguna, recently sworn into office team's (The Entertainment Arts and Media) nine seasoned showbiz journalists, headed by its president, Nonie Nicasio.

Other officers are Anne Venancio, vice president; Maridol Ranoa-Bismark, secretary; Maryo Labad, assistant secretary; Obette Serrano, treasurer; Noel Benesisto Orsal, assistant treasurer; Wendell Alvarez, auditor; and Pilar Mateo and Danny Vibas, PROs.

Other members include Cesar Ian Batingal, Boy Borja, Roland Lerum, Jhay Orencia, Aldrin Cacayan, Marialuz Candaba, Adjes Carreon, Nimfa Chua, Sany Chua, Audie See, and Atorni Ton.

The mayor's wife, former singer-actress Gem Castillo-Amante, witnessed the induction at the new city hall of the City of Seven Lakes. The mayor was touched by Team's decision to make him the induction officer, acknowledging that his popularity with Team hinges on the officers' and members' closeness to his wife, a member of the GMA youth-oriented TV show "That's Entertainment" hosted by the late German "Kuya Germs" Moreno.

Nicasio said Team is aware of Amante's accomplishments and awards since he became the city's chief executive in 1992. In 2007, the Association of Local Social Welfare and Development Officers of the Philippines, Inc. named him Outstanding City Mayor in the Field of Social Welfare and Development.

Since 1993, under Amante's leadership, San Pablo City has been chosen as an Outstanding Local Government Unit (City Level), a presidential award under a program implemented by the National Economic and Development Council, Department of the Interior and Local Government, and the Department of Health. Former president Fidel V. Ramos recognized Amante as a Hall of Famer.

Amante's wife, fondly called "Mayora," has also received recognition as a private citizen.

In 2022, Nation Builders and Mosliv Awards named her Honorary Philanthropist of the Year for helping needy constituents and those from other places. She supports orphanages, homes for the elderly, and financially strapped college students, including those who continue their education even if their academic performance is not outstanding.

Mayor Amante has provided free pre-school, elementary, and high school education to his constituents.

Meanwhile, on June 9, Team will hold a gift-giving and feeding outreach project at Childhaus, a halfway house for children and teens from the provinces who have been diagnosed with cancer and direly need medical services in Metro Manila. Team will visit about 50 children and bring rising singing and dancing talents to entertain them.

Team's advisers are Quezon City councilor Alfred Vargas, former singer-actress Gem Castillo, veteran entertainment columnist Ed de Leon, and award-winning film producer Baby Go.
