By Manila Times - 3 months ago

THE Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) said it has sent additional troops and artillery batteries to Eastern Visayas to bolster the anti-insurgency drive in the region.

It added that over the weekend, soldiers belonging to the 2nd Howitzer Platoon, Bravo Company, 3rd Field Artillery Battery and Armor Artillery Regiment have arrived in Camp Vicente Lukban in Catbalogan City, Samar.

8th Infantry Division Chief of Staff Col. Cesar Molina welcomed the development, saying it would sustain the gains of the government in the fight against communist rebels.

"Your role is crucial in gaining an advantage to end the insurgency and safeguarding the safety and security of the Eastern Visayas. We trust in your abilities to carry out your duties with the utmost professionalism and expertise," Molina told the troops.

Sporadic fighting sparked anew in Samar last week between government forces communist rebels.
