MANILA, Philippines — The Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) on Friday launched its Digital ID, which the agency considered a "significant step in its efforts to automate processes, streamline services and amplify the customer service experience for its members and pensioners."
In an effort to adapt to digital transformation, the launch of the new ID coincides with the agency's 87th anniversary, with the theme "Kabalikat sa Bagong Pilipinas" (Partner to a New Philippines).
According to the GSIS, its Digital ID is a membership identification that is integrated into the GSIS Touch mobile app, keeping members and pensioners registered and enrolled and able to access their digital IDs for authentication, as well as improve efficiency and security of services, reduce fraud, and enhance access to the GSIS Touch.
"The GSIS continuously strives to stay ahead and make it safer and more convenient for government workers to transact. We are not just launching a digital ID – this signals a new era where our members and pensioners can fully access our services easily through their Smartphones," GSIS president and general manager Jose Arnulfo "Wick" Veloso said in a statement.
"The launch of the GSIS Digital ID aligns with the Bagong Pilipinas Strategy of the administration, with the GSIS as a key partner in implementing robust measures to develop innovative solutions, driving progress and sustainable development for our country," he added.
GSIS said that as of last December, 97 percent of its loan transactions were processed electronically through kiosks and the GSIS Touch mobile app, with only 3 percent handled over-the-counter.
"The shift in digitization demonstrates the GSIS's commitment to enhance convenience, reliability, and accessibility for its members, pensioners, and stakeholders," the agency's statement read.
