By Manila Times - 4 months ago

MANILA, Philippines —The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) issued a yellow alert status for the Luzon grid on Friday due to several power plants still under forced outages.

According to the transmission firm, the Luzon grid will be under yellow alert for the time from 2 p.m. to -4 p.m., and 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.

There are no alerts for Visayas and Mindanao.

A yellow alert is only issued when the operating margin is not enough to meet the transmission grid's contingency requirement.

According to NGCP's morning announcement, two plants have been on forced outage since 2023, three between January and March 2024, and 10 between April and May 2024. Nine are running on derated capacities.
