Filipino Olympian pole vaulter Ernest John "EJ" Obiena has clinched the silver medal in the 2024 Bislett Games in Oslo, Norway.
KC Lighhtfoot of the United States took the gold medal after clearing 5.82 meters.
Obiena, on the other hand, registered 5.72 meters, tied with Emmanouil Karalis of Greece.
During the tournament, Obiena said he broke another pole, which he showed in his social media stories.
"Very thankful that I am not hurt and I live to fight another day," he wrote in his stories. "I'm taking this with a bit of humor but in all honesty, this is not funny at all."
"All those [pole vault] videos you see on YouTube is a reality and it does happen," he added. "Good thing I was lucky this time."
In a separate post, Obiena also thanked Lightfoot and Menno Vloon of the Netherlands for lending him poles.
Obiena will next head to the Bauhaus Galan in Stockholm, Sweden, the home country of his rival and Olympic gold medalist Armand Duplantis.
Obiena said he hopes to get new poles in time for the tournament.
