By Manila Times - 6 months ago

THE Ayala tunnel along EDSA in Makati City was closed for about two hours after the driver of a white Toyota Innova was shot dead by an unidentified gunman in another car at about 2 p.m. in the southbound area on Tuesday.

Witnesses said the Innova crashed into some motorcycles in front of it after the driver was shot. It was unclear if their riders were hurt.

Speaking on radio DZRH, Makati police chief Col. Edward Cutiyong said one person died in the shooting, adding police were pursuing the suspect.

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), on its X social media account, advised motorists at 2:03 p.m. to take alternate routes after the area was shut down.

Philippine National Police investigators and MMDA personnel were at the scene where the closure caused heavy traffic.

On her X handle, The Manila Times columnist Ma. Lourdes Tiquia said the tail end of the traffic even reached EDSA-Ortigas.

The southbound area of the EDSA Ayala tunnel was reopened to traffic at 4:10 p.m., and the Innova was brought to the Makati City PNP headquarters.
