SEN. Bong Go extended aid to fire victims in Zamboanga City on Friday to help rebuild their lives.
The senator provided assistance to the 575 fire victims who received snacks, shirts, vitamins, basketballs and volleyballs.
Select recipients also received shoes, mobile phones, and bicycles.
Go, in a message in Filipino, advised them to "be careful and look after each other's one welfare."
"Who else will help another but us, fellow Filipinos? That's why we are here to help you recover from the fire tragedy," Go said.
The National Housing Authority (NHA) extended emergency housing assistance to qualified families to help them secure the materials they need to rebuild their homes.
"You will be given funds today to buy housing materials such as nails, galvanized iron and other items needed in house repair," Go said.
"We will continue to support the implementation of the [NHA] program to help fire victims to start all over again," he said.
Go said he authored and co-sponsored Republic Act 11589 or the Bureau of Fire Protection Modernization Act of 2021. The law mandates the BFP undergo a 10-year modernization program to help improve the agency's capabilities.
The program includes recruiting more firefighters, acquiring new fire equipment, and developing specialized training.
It also directs the BFP to conduct monthly fire prevention campaigns and information drives in partnership with the Department of the Interior and Local Government.
Go also offered additional assistance to those in need of medical care. He advised them to visit any of the three Malasakit Centers in the city, including Zamboanga City Medical Center, Mindanao Central Sanitarium, and Labuan General Hospital.
