BAGUIO CITY – Mayor Benjamin Magalong issued an executive order on Thursday, May 16, declaring June 29 this year as World Music Day Festival or "Fete De La Musique."
Executive Order 52, series of 2024, provides guidelines to efficiently and effectively manage the World Music Day, an annual international music celebration which had its humble beginnings in France in the 1980s, and the concept behind the endeavor to provide the public with free musical performances to promote unity and appreciation of music.
In 2017, Baguio City, the French Embassy in the Philippines and the Alliance Francaise de Manille presented for the first time the Fete de la Musique in the Summer Capital showcasing over 40 performers from the National Capital Region.
Recognizing the tourism and economic impacts of this event, Resolution 117, series of 2017, declared every 21st day of June of every year as World Music Day in the City of Pines.
The mayor's executive order declares that June 29, 2024 shall be known as the World Music Day Festival 2024-Baguio Stage or Fete de la Musique 2024-Baguio Stage, and activities will take place on the same day at the Baguio Convention and Cultural Center.
The Office of the City Administrator-Tourism, Culture and Arts Division has been tasked to serve as the event's overall coordinator and shall allow incidental activities in support of the occasion.
The order also directs other concerned government agencies, departments and offices to extend support to the festival and encourages concerned national government agencies, business and private sectors to extend all cordialities for the event's success.
