Lady Knights survive Stags to secure No. 2 seed

By Manila Times - 6 months ago

MANILA, Philippines — Letran woke up from deep slumber and came through in the last two sets to turn back an upset-conscious San Sebastian, 25-20, 25-27, 20-25, 25-12, 15-9, Wednesday to claim the second seeding in the NCAA Season 99 women's volleyball stepladder semis at the Filoil EcoOil Arena.

The Lady Knights thus finished with a 7-2 record, which put them at second after the elimination round.

Thanks to it, the pontifical school awaits the winner of the knockout duel between No. 3 Lyceum of the Philippines University and No. 4 Arellano U Sunday at the same venue.

Whoever wins that duel will earn the right to clash with three-peat-seeking College of St. Benilde in a best-of-three affair.

The Lady Blazers swept the elims in nine games to clinch an outright finals spot.

Yen Martin came through big in the final two sets and finished with 11 points, all came off attacks.

After dropping the opening set, SSC turned things around and seized the next two sets with their relentless attacking.

Letran, however, didn't give up and emphatically took the final two sets as SSC-R just utterly crumbled under tremendous pressure.

The Lady Stags capped their campaign with a 2-7 mark. TMT
