Palawan, Pangasinan to hit 45 C as PH sweats for rest of the week

By Manila Times - 7 months ago

MANILA, Philippines It will be hot for the remainder of the week in most parts of the country as the easterlies and high pressure area (HPA) affect each other, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said on Thursday.

As a result, weather specialist Aldczar Aurelio said higher air and body temperatures may be experienced in many areas, specifically in Palawan and Pangasinan where the heat index could rise up to 45 C.

Pagasa said a heat index between 42 C and 51 C is under the danger level as heat cramps, heat exhaustion and heat stroke are possible.

Heat index is what the temperature feels like to the human body when relative humidity is combined with the air temperature.

He said the city of Tuguegarao and Metro Manila will have 38 C and 35 C temperatures respectively.

"We are always reminding the public to limit the time spent outdoors especially during late morning until mid-afternoon to avoid the scorching heat of the sun and to always drink plenty of water," the Pagasa forecaster said.

Easterlies are winds coming from the east that pass through the Pacific Ocean and carry humid and warm weather while the HPA, also known as anticyclone, is associated with fair weather and weak winds.
