It's hot in Luzon; rainshowers, thunderstorms in Mindanao – Pagasa

By Manila Times - 7 months ago

MANILA, Philippines: A trough of a low pressure area (LPA) outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) is affecting some areas in Mindanao where scattered rain showers and thunderstorms would be likely within 24 hours, the state-run weather agency said on Tuesday.

On one hand, the ridge of a high pressure area (HPA) is particularly extending over the eastern sections of Northern and Central Luzon, weather specialist Rhea Torres of the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said.

Specifically, Torres said the extension of the LPA is bringing overcast skies with scattered downpours and thunderstorms over Davao Region, Cotabato and Sarangani.

"But this LPA has a very slim chance to enter PAR and develop into a tropical cyclone," she said.

Generally, the Pagasa forecaster said fair weather conditions would be experienced, especially in most areas in Luzon due to the ridge of HPA.

The opposite of LPA, the HPA is typically associated with fair weather and weak winds and with its presence, cloud formations are unlikely which indicate less chance of rain, Pagasa said.

Meanwhile, the localized thunderstorms are affecting Metro Manila and the rest of the country where partly cloudy to cloudy skies could prevail, especially in the late afternoon or at night, the state weather bureau said.
