Red, yellow alerts up for Luzon, Visayas grids due to forced outages

MANILA, Philippines: The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) issued red and yellow alerts for Luzon and the Visayas on Tuesday due to the forced outages from several power plants.

In its advisory, the NGCP said that the Luzon Grid will be on red alert from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm, and 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm, and will be on yellow alert from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm, 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm, and 9:00 pm to 11:00 pm.

The NGCP said the Visayas will be on yellow alert from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm, and 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm.

Nineteen power plants are on forced outage while three are on reduced capacity The NGCP said that for the Luzon grid, 19 power plants are on forced outage, while three others are running on reduced capacity.

Meanwhile, 12 power plants are on forced outage and five are on reduced capacity in the VIsayas.

A red alert is issued when the power supply is insufficient to meet consumer demand while a yellow alert is when the operating margin is insufficient to meet the transmission grid's contingency requirement.
