MANILA, Philippines: Former senator Antonio Trillanes 4th welcomed the Supreme Court decision upholding the amnesty granted to him and declaring its revocation by then president Rodrigo Duterte unconstitutional.
Posting on his X (formerly Twitter) handle on Thursday, Trillanes also named former executive secretary Salvador Medialdea, former justice secretary (now Solicitor General) Menardo Guevarra, and former solicitor general Jose Calida as those abusing power while in office.
"I would like to thank the Supreme Court for dismissing Duterte's amnesty revocation in 2018, in wanting to silence and imprison opposition members, Duterte, Medialdea, Guevarra, and Calida had committed an abuse of power and extreme stupidity," the former senator wrote in Filipino.
The High Court en banc on Wednesday, in a decision penned by Associate Justice Maria Filomena Singh, dismissed Duterte's Proclamation 527 that revoked Trillanes' amnesty.
