(UPDATE) NEARLY nine out of 10 Filipinos trust the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), a survey by OCTA Research last December showed.

Its rating hardly moved from its October satisfaction rating of +83.

Its net satisfaction rating across major areas is at +85, except for the National Capital Region where it was +73.

The rating was up by 5 points in all areas except for Mindanao where it dropped by 3 points.

Among socioeconomic classes, the highest net satisfaction rating came from Classes ABC and E with +87, followed by Class D at +83 percent.

Among the ABC segment, the rating rose sharply by 14 points, but it slipped by one point for Class D.

The survey found that 87 percent trust the AFP, while only 2 percent distrust it, for a net trust rating of +85 percent.

The highest trust rating was in Mindanao, with +89, followed by Visayas at +88. The lowest is in the National Capital Region with +73.

The AFP also scored high trust ratings among Class ABC with +87, followed by Class D and E at +84 and +85 respectively.

Reacting to the survey, Assistant Majority Leader and Lanao del Sur 1st District Rep. Zia Alonto Adiong said the survey result is a "welcome development," and an "effective propaganda tool" to convince the public not to join radicalized groups.

"It only shows how the military, our AFP and our security sector is addressing the problems in internal security as well as external protection in preservation of our sovereignty in our territory when it comes to other foreign challenges and foreign threats that we are facing right now, specifically in the West Philippine Sea," Adiong said.

The survey had 1,200 respondents and a margin of error of plus or minus three percent.
