BACOLOD CITY: An employee of the Talisay City government in Negros Occidental was shot dead in his home by a lone suspect on Tuesday, March 5.
Authorities identified the victim as Mike Lumawag, who was assigned at the Land Tax Division of the City Treasurer's Office.
Maj. Karena Onio, information officer of the Talisay City Police Station, said Lumawag, 45, had just brought his child to a nearby public school and was opening their gate to park his car when the killer started shooting at him.
He was followed all the way to the kitchen where the killer could have made sure he was dead, said Onio.
Police said Lumawag tried to escape but was pursued by the gunman all the way to the kitchen, where he was cornered and shot multiple times.
Witnesses told investigators that they heard at least four gunshots.
Police at the scene recovered six bullet casings from an undetermined firearm caliber.
Onio said their investigation is focused on work activities and personal matters as major motives for the murder of Lumawag.
Interviews with the victim's colleagues and neighbors indicated he had no known adversaries, although Lumawag, Onio said, tended to keep his personal life private.
Efforts are being made to obtain footage from CCTV cameras in the vicinity that may have caught the crime.
