Players from the King's Gambit Online Chess School of coach Richard Villaseran won big tournaments over the weekend with National Master Michael Jan Stephen Inigo and Christian Mendoza leading the way.
Inigo claimed the championship of the Mary Sitti Otod Fide Rated Invitational in Valencia, Negros Oriental while Mendoza topped the 2024 1st Amateur FIDE Rated Tournament in Quezon City.
Another King's Gambit learner, Xandro Desepeda, ruled the Laguna schools division meet.
Promising 7-year-old chesser Art Joe Capatan, meanwhile, stunned older opponents and bagged second place in the Davao leg of the Singapore Chess Festival qualifying tournament. He earned a spot for the 12-under age category.
Tiv Omangay, meanwhile, finished tied for third place in a non-master tournament in Pampanga while Jeremy Marticio and Zedric Silva ended up tied for fourth place in a tough open chess tournament in Laguna.
