Ajido wins 50m butterfly silver at AAGC

NEW CLARK CITY, Philippines: Filipino Jamesray Ajido clocked 25.50 seconds in the 50-meter butterfly to break his personal record but his performance was good enough for a silver medal in the boys 12-14 category in the 11th Asian Age Group Championships (AAGC) on Thursday evening, February 29, here at the New Clark City Aquatics Center.

Ajido finished behind gold medal winner Nishiono Yusei of Japan whose time of 25.43 seconds was exactly.07 second ahead of the young Filipino swimmer.

In the 100-meter butterfly finals on Tuesday evening, Ajido edged his Japanese counterpart by.07 second also to win the gold medal.

It was the first gold medal for the Philippines in the history of the AAGC.

Ajido's clocking of 55.98 seconds in the 100m butterfly now stands as the Philippine and meet record for the age bracket.

Meanwhile, Iran's Yashar Soleimani seized the bronze in the 50m butterfly with a time of 26.02.

Overall, Ajido collected three medals as he also won the bronze medal in the 50m freestyle on Tuesday.
