FORMER senator Gregorio "Gringo" Honasan 2nd joined the Covenant for the Nation's call for a national interfaith prayer rally.

The Covenant for the Nation — a broad and inclusive alliance, comprising various religious organizations along with former government officials and concerned citizens — wrote to President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and former president Rodrigo Duterte, urging them to lead the rally.

This was brought about as the country continued to face an increasing political crisis amid several pressing national issues. During this time, Honasan was among those who called for sobriety between the two camps as an example of political unity.

Through Sen. Christopher Lawrence "Bong" Go, Duterte confirmed that he was open to the suggestion of leading the interfaith prayer rally with Marcos.

A Covenant for the Nation statement said in Filipino: "We call on all leaders of households, churches and government to pray and covenant with God for the nation, government and Filipino people toward unity for righteousness, justice, peace, progress, a well-functioning and prosperous Filipino family, and all that is beneficial to the country, setting aside personal interests and politics.

The Covenant for the Nation was composed of professionals, bishops, pastors, former government officials and retired personnel from the Armed Forces of the Philippines and the Philippine National Police.

Among the organizations involved in this initiative were the Light House, The Lord's Vineyard, Yeshua Change Agents, Yeshua Men of Covenant, RoC n' RoL Movement, Community Operations for Public Service Inc., Pederalismo ng Dugong Dakilang Samahan and Defenders of Justice.
