MANILA, Philippines: Filipino pole vaulter Ernest John "EJ" Obiena continues to roll in his quest for the upcoming Paris Olympics by clinching gold at the Istaf Indoor tournament in Berlin, Germany on Friday.

Obiena set a new Asian indoor record by clearing the height of 5.93 meters.

He had also defeated Tray Oates of the United States (5.93m) and Robert Sobera of Poland (5.66m).

The Filipino Olympian was runner-up in last year's Istaf.

Obiena's next tournament will be at the World Indoor Athletics Champions at Glasgow, Scotland, United Kingdom.
